Our Oral Surgical Procedure

1

Investigation

Using an X-Ray, we first examine the tooth. The tooth root and the surrounding bone is studied to anticipate all complications. At our dental hospital in Gowrivakkam, we also conduct a comprehensive medical history study to determine if you are sufficiently healthy for tooth extraction.
2

Preparation

After discussing anaesthesia options, we give you local anaesthesia to numb the gum, teeth and surrounding bones. We may also rely on oral sedatives. For complicated tooth extractions, the patient is asked to inhale nitrous oxide.
3

Procedure

To remove your tooth, a small incision is made on your gum first. While doing so, we take every possible care not to damage the bone surrounding the extracted tooth. A lab-processed bone graft may be inserted into the socket to maintain proper bone volume.

The bone graft is inserted especially in cases where the patient is scheduled for dental implants. These procedures necessitate fusing the implant to existing bones or in orthodontics to gently move the teeth through the bone.

4

The After

After tooth extraction, we cover the socket with sterile gauze. To control bleeding, gentle pressure is applied for ten to twenty minutes. Then small sutures are stitched. You may experience mild discomfort and swelling after the procedure. This is normal.

Our doctors will prescribe pain killers to manage the symptoms and antibiotics to stave off infection. We also advise sticking to soft food that’s not spicy or sticky and applying ice packs on the jaw for a few days until you return to normal.

FAQs

What is tooth extraction?

The removal of infected, damaged or wisdom teeth is called a tooth extraction. In the procedure, the entire tooth starting from the alveolar bone to the crown is removed.

Will tooth extraction hurt?

We sedate our patients during tooth extraction. Therefore, there is no pain. Furthermore, some teeth extractions become necessary because the nerves are dying, which takes away their capacity to send pain signals.

Does tooth extraction differ from wisdom tooth surgery?

Wisdom teeth require oral surgery because they are impacted or haven’t come out of the gum line entirely. Tooth extraction, on the other hand, may simply pull a tooth without any surgery.

How long does it take for gum to heal after oral surgery?

Typically, the gum heals within 7 to 14 days of the surgery. At times, it may take longer based on the severity of the surgery and teeth location.

Why is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth?

The average mouth has just enough space to hold 28 teeth. Wisdom teeth add four more, making it an uncomfortable fit and sometimes painful. That is why it is necessary to remove the third molars through oral surgery.
